Empowering Students with Essential Products
The Pink Flower Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing menstrual products to public schools in six central Virginia counties, ensuring students have access to essential hygiene supplies.
Our Mission and Vision
Supporting Local School Communities
Each school receives an initial supply of 40 bags, containing pads, panty liners, wipes, and a sticker, with the option to request refills as needed to support students' health and well-being.
Our History
The Pink Flower Project officially began in July of 2024 after our founder, Shelby Gilliam, felt the call to help young girls in our area. It started with her filling bags on her own in 2022 and delivering them to her son’s elementary school. She finally decided to take a leap of faith and invite the community to help her.
In September of 2024, our first boxes were delivered to Spotsylvania County schools - all 30. In October, we were able to deliver to 11 more schools in Caroline and King George counties.
We made a big decision to cover 6 counties total - Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, Fredericksburg City, Orange, and Stafford. Together, that is 86 schools.
Our goal is to provide aid in the potentially embarrassing moment when our female students do not have the appropriate supplies when their cycles start at school.
Our schools can choose the method that works best for them, but many have the school nurse keep the bags in the clinic. Others have decided to give a few to their teachers or keep them with the school counselor. We have even provided an extra supply for the health/P.E. teachers to use during the appropriate unit.
Counties we serve
We serve the public schools of Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, Fredericksburg City, Stafford, and Orange counties.
